Artist's Statement "Bellvista 657-A"

"Bellvista 657A" is a sculpture which responds to the conditions that make Connemara necessary. A house plan is drawn in salt on the ground. The drawing for the house is taken directly from the marketing package of a local housing development. The salt, bought from a nearby agricultural supply store, will kill the grass and etch the lines of the drawing into the landscape.

"Bellvista 657A" is a sculpture which speaks about the complexity of mankind's relationship with Nature.

About the Artist

Robert Sprachman is from Toronto, Canada. He specializes in site-specific work by commission. A graduate of the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Manitoba, Sprachman worked as an interior designer for five years before returning to the University of Toronto to study art history. He then studied sculpture at the Ontario College of Art. With site--specific sculpture, he draws on his dual experiences in both art and design to integrate the viewer's experiences of place.

Sprachman works in many different materials and lets the nature of the project dictate the appropriate material.
