Selected Figurative Works - Mirrors and Shadows
Shadow, 1990, 8' x 6' x 3', painted handmade paper and string
"Shadow" is from a series of works composed of life-size figures joined to
their shadow image with strings. The flat cut out handmade paper forms are suspended from
the ceiling and rest on the floor. The "Shadows" are usually exhibited as a
group. There are six "Shadows" available in this series.
Selected
works from the Mirror Series; left to right (Shrinking Woman; 1993; 8' x
4' x 3'; Face Lift; 1994; 2' x 3' x 1'; Means of Support; 1993; 8' x 4' x 3'); all are
handmade paper, string and acrylic paint constructions. The frame is mounted on the wall
and the figure hangs from the ceiling in front. These works are self portraits exploring
the self and its mirror image and about the process of aging. 10 works are available in
the "Mirror" series.
Jane exhibited three of her suspended sculptures from the "Shadows" series in Fort Wayne, Indiana at Artlink
Contemporary Art Gallery, 437 East Berry St., Suite 202, Fort Wayne, IN, April 16 - May
19, 1999. Three of Jane's figurative works of handmade paper and string from her
1992-93 "Shadow" series were selected for this invitational exhibition.
